A New Era for Tennis: The Rising Star and His Coach
In a surprising turn of events, Eric Hernandez, the former fitness coach of tennis legend Daniil Medvedev, has embarked on a fresh journey with an up-and-coming Italian tennis sensation, Federico Cina. This development comes after Medvedev's disappointing US Open exit, which prompted a complete team reshuffle.
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, bid farewell to Hernandez after an 11-year partnership and also parted ways with his main coach, Gilles Cervara, who had been by his side for eight years. Now, four months later, Hernandez is back in the tennis spotlight, this time with the promising Cina, currently ranked 237th in the world.
Cina's recent success has been impressive. He reached the semifinals of the 2023 US Open boys' singles tournament and has been on a roll, winning his second ITF title this year and reaching the finals of Challenger events in Heraklion, Tbilisi, and Hamburg. In September, the 18-year-old came tantalizingly close to breaking into the top 200, achieving a career-high ranking of 237.
But here's where it gets controversial... Hernandez's decision to join Cina's team has sparked curiosity and debate among tennis enthusiasts. With Medvedev, Hernandez achieved remarkable success, as the Russian star was known for his exceptional physical preparation. Medvedev himself paid tribute to Hernandez, crediting him for pushing him to his limits and achieving victories together.
"Thank you, Eric. You made me better, faster, and stronger every day. I could run for 20 hours during a tournament and still have a chance to win. I'll never forget our victories. I wish you luck in your new chapter; I'm sure it will be great," Medvedev wrote on Instagram.
So, the question arises: Can Hernandez replicate this success with Cina? Hernandez seems confident, expressing his motivation to join Cina's team and family. He announced on Instagram, "A new chapter begins. Motivated to join Federico China's team and family. Ready to go! And thank you for your trust. Thanks to the Italian Tennis Federation for welcoming me. Forza!"
And this is the part most people miss... Hernandez's expertise and experience could be the key to Cina's rise. With the right guidance and training, Cina could become a force to be reckoned with on the tennis circuit. But will he be able to match Medvedev's achievements? Only time will tell.
