In a remarkable achievement, University of Hawai'i's Kansei Matsuzawa has shattered records and made history! But here's the kicker: he's the first-ever player from the program to be crowned a consensus All-American, an honor bestowed upon him by the prestigious American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
The Tokyo-born talent has been dominating the field, securing a spot on the first team in three out of the NCAA's five All-America teams. These include the Walter Camp Foundation and the Associated Press, with two more teams yet to be announced. Matsuzawa's performance has been nothing short of extraordinary, earning him a place alongside UH legend Jason Elam as the only two players to grace the AFCA All-America first team.
And this is where it gets even more impressive. Just a few weeks ago, Matsuzawa broke Elam's record for consecutive field goals made, earning the nickname "Tokyo Toe." He ended the regular season with an astonishing 25 out of 26 field goal attempts.
The accolades didn't stop there. Matsuzawa was named to the AP All-America first team, a rare feat for a Rainbow Warrior, and became the first UH player to secure a spot on the Walter Camp Football Foundation's first team. The AFCA also recognized UH head coach Timmy Chang as the Region 5 Coach of the Year, a historic first for the university.
So far, Matsuzawa has been named a first-team All-American by four esteemed organizations, with several others placing him on their second teams.
